Want to know a little bit about me?
My name is Ms. Woods (aka Sheli Woods) and I grew up right here in Hemet! I graduated from Hemet High (go bulldogs!) when it was the only high school in Hemet. I went to college at Humboldt State University where I earned my BA in Liberal Studies-Elementary Education with a minor in English and History. I loved it so much up there, I stayed to earn my teaching credential. I loved school so much, I earned my MA in Educational Administration right after I started teaching from Chapman University. Learning rocks!
I was hired right out of college in Palm Springs. I taught 3rd grade GATE at a great school in Desert Hot Springs for 6 years. I made the decision to come back home to Hemet when I had kids of my own. I was lucky enough to work at Fruitvale Elementary for 3 years as the 4th grade GATE teacher. In 2010, there was this great new middle school opening and I went for it. I was part of the opening staff here at WCA and I haven't looked back. This will be my 13th year teaching Honors English. While I taught Astronomy for the first 5 years WCA was open, this will be my eighth year teaching robotics.
I have 2 kids and 3 cats. Maggie is 17 and is a senior here at WCA this year. James is 13 and is a freshman here at WCA.
I love reading and can easily read anywhere from 1-3 novels a week. Yep. Seriously. If I have any free time you will find me reading. I am also a sci-fi fanatic! Especially Star Wars and Doctor Who (as you would quickly know if you spend any time in my classroom).
I can't wait to get to know more about you! Welcome to Western Center Academy for the 2022/23 school year!!!
